The Wheel of Life is a powerful tool that can help you achieve balance, fulfillment, and success in all areas of your life. This exercise was developed by Dr. Mark McKergow and Paul Z Jackson as an effective way to visualize different aspects of your life and assess their levels of satisfaction. In this blog post, we will explore what the Wheel of Life is, its benefits, how to create one for yourself, and how to use it to set goals and take action towards a better future.

What Is The Wheel Of Life?

The Wheel of Life is essentially a circular diagram divided into sections or spokes representing various areas of your life such as career, finances, relationships, health, personal development, etc. Each spoke represents a specific area of your life, and they are all connected to form a wheel. You rate each area on a scale of 1-10 based on your level of satisfaction with it. The resulting image provides a snapshot of where you currently stand in terms of overall life satisfaction.

Benefits Of Using The Wheel Of Life Exercise

There are several benefits of using the Wheel of Life exercise:

1. It helps you gain clarity about your priorities – By rating each area of your life, you get a clear understanding of which areas need more attention and focus.

2. It highlights imbalances – The Wheel of Life makes it easy to see if there are any areas of your life that are neglected or overemphasized.

3. It encourages self-reflection – Rating each area of your life forces you to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to each aspect of your life.

4. It promotes goal setting – Once you have identified areas that need improvement, you can set achievable goals to improve them.

How To Create Your Own Wheel Of Life

Creating your own Wheel of Life is simple. Here’s how to do it:

1. Draw a circle and divide it into eight equal parts (or however many segments you want).

2. Label each segment with a word or phrase that represents an important area of your life such as Career, Finances, Relationships, Health, Personal Development, etc.

3. Assign a number from 1-10 to each section, depending on how satisfied you feel with that particular area of your life. Be honest with yourself!

4. Connect the dots to form a complete wheel.

Assessing Your Current Levels Of Fulfillment

Once you have created your Wheel of Life, it’s time to assess your current levels of fulfillment. Look at the numbers you assigned to each area and consider whether they accurately represent your level of satisfaction. If not, adjust them accordingly. Now, step back and look at the big picture. What does your Wheel of Life tell you about your overall level of life satisfaction? Are there any surprises? Any areas that seem out of proportion compared to others? Take note of these insights because they will be valuable when setting goals later on.

Setting Goals For A More Balanced Life

Now that you have assessed your current levels of fulfillment, it’s time to set some goals for a more balanced life. Start by selecting two or three areas of your Wheel of Life that you would like to improve. Then, set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely (SMART) goals for each area. Make sure your goals are realistic and align with your values and aspirations. Write down your goals somewhere visible so you can refer to them regularly.

Taking Action Towards A Better Future

Congratulations! You now have a roadmap for achieving greater balance, fulfillment, and success in all areas of your life. But don’t just sit there admiring your Wheel of Life; it’s time to take action. Start implementing your goals today, even if it’s just small steps. Consistency is key. As you make progress, update your Wheel of Life to reflect your improvements. Before long, you’ll notice significant changes in your life, both personally and professionally.
